Credit: David Kirkpatrick of Trustwave's SpiderLabs Finding 1: Cross-Site Scripting CVE: CVE-2011-2466 A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered in the ZyWALL 70 firewall login process that can be used to inject malicious scripts into a browser, which appear to be genuine content from the original site. This attack could be used to steal session identities, or other sensitive information from the user. Proof-of-Concept: By sending the following GET request to the appliance, and replacing the A.B.C.D at the beginning of the request with the IP address of the appliance, a user will cause the JavaScript Alert popup to be displayed in the user's browser, thus showing illicit JavaScript can be run: http://A.B.C.D/Forms/rpAuth_1?LoginPassword=test&hiddenPassword=test&Prestige_Login=Login The vulnerable parameters were: - LoginPassword - hiddenPassword Vendor Response: ZyXEL has released the 404WM4_db(0506).bin patch which addresses this vulnerability. Remediation Steps: Customers should contact ZyXEL customer support in order to obtain the patch which addresses the cross-site scripting vulnerability.
